Measurement

Measurement & Business Value

Measure the Operation. Quantify the Opportunity.

Value is established for one operation at a time. This page sets out what can be measured, what inputs are required and what business outputs can be calculated.

Measure · Inputs · Quantify

What we measure, and what can be quantified

Which of them apply, and to what extent, depends on the client's own baseline and equipment, and on either scenario inputs or verified trial performance, according to the calculation mode.

What We MeasureInputs RequiredWhat Can Be Quantified
Fuel consumed for comparable operating output Annual fuel consumption from operating and procurement records Annualised fuel reduction
Fuel or energy intensity against a useful output unit Client landed fuel price for the relevant grade Estimated annual fuel-cost impact
Operating performance metrics relevant to the duty cycle Improvement input: labelled scenario (Opportunity Estimate) or verified pilot improvement (Verified Business Case) Fuel or energy-intensity improvement
Emissions performance where methodology permits Application category and normalising output metric Estimated avoided CO₂ where an approved emissions factor exists
Performance of assets remaining in service through transition Controlled deployment cost where a net case is required Net annual benefit, payback and return on investment where controlled cost inputs exist

A calculation methodology

Controlled formula

Chain 1

  1. Annual Fuel ConsumptionClient operating and procurement records
  2. multiplied by
  3. Verified Pilot ImprovementMeasured in the client's controlled trial
  4. equals
  5. Annualised Fuel ReductionLitres or tonnes over the operating year

Chain 2

  1. Annualised Fuel ReductionCarried forward from the calculation above
  2. multiplied by
  3. Client Fuel PriceLanded delivered price for the fuel grade
  4. equals
  5. Estimated Annual Fuel-Cost ImpactThe figure taken into the commercial decision

Two calculation modes

Opportunity Estimate | Verified Business Case

Basis: Pre-pilot illustrative scenario

Opportunity Estimate

Output label
Illustrative Opportunity Estimate
How it is built
Based on user-entered or stated assumptions. It is not a performance commitment. Actual performance must be established through the client's own baseline and controlled trial.

Basis: Post-pilot client-specific calculation

Verified Business Case

Output label
Verified Client-Specific Business Case
How it is built
Built from the client's own verified baseline and verified trial result. The verified result must still be tied to the specific asset, fuel, duty cycle, measurement method and period that produced it. Payback and return on investment are shown only where the relevant deployment-cost and benefit inputs are controlled.
